Dr. Erica Larschan

I am an associate professor of biology and have been teaching and conducting research at Brown for 10 years. My research group is fascinated by the amazing process by which genes are regulated together through diverse and highly compacted genomes. Our research has won several significant awards including...

the Presidential Early Career Award from President Obama. In my free time, I enjoy biking and canoeing with my husband and two kids (ages 8 and 11).

Dominique Pablito

My research investigates epigenetic mechanisms and their potential to induce or contribute to genomic instability in the form of DNA-RNA hybrids, commonly known as R-loops.

I am a third-year Ph.D. student in the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry Department at Brown. I'm from the Four Corners Area and I belong to the Zuni, Navajo, and Comanche tribes. I grew up on the Zuni and Navajo reservations and I speak Zuni, Navajo, English, and French. My interests include running, basketball, and traditional beadwork.

Cynthia Zhang

I am a second-year master's student studying data science. In the Larschan Lab, I am working on the analyses and visualizations of CUT and RUN data. In addition to that, I am

interested in machine learning and will be exploring the potential application of such techniques on 3D genome datasets.

Jasmine Shum

I am a senior (Class of 2024) concentrating in Computational Biology on the Biology track with a theme in Neurobiology. In the Larschan Lab, I investigate the role of various RNA-CLAMP complexes in driving spliceosome function.

Pranav Mahableshwarkar

I am currently a third-year student studying Computational Biology. I am working on developing computational methods to better analyze and understand data produced in the Lab from a multi-omic approach! Outside of lab work, I love to go hiking and bake desserts.

Dr. Mukulika Ray

I graduated from Regional Institute of Education, BBSR (Utkal University), India with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degree in 2007. I did my Masters in Science (Zoology) with Molecular and Human genetics as specialization in 2009 from Banaras Hindu University, India. I earned my PhD degree in 2017 from...

the same university. My work focused on the field of cell and RNA biology where I investigated the role of long non-coding RNA in Drosophila melanogaster during development especially how it modulates Ras signaling cascade. I also studied inter-organ signaling between brain and epithelial tissues in Drosophila. Currently my interests include investigating how sex specific transcriptome is established during early stages of development and what importance this might play in prognosis of neurodegenerative disorders showing sex specific bias in their severity. As an extension of this study I want to look into the mechanism of RNA processing coupled with the process of transcription. I am also using Drosophila transcription factor (TF) CLAMP as a model to study context specific function of transcription factors under normal or stressful conditions (heat stress).

Joseph Aguilera

I am a PhD student in the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry Department. I completed my undergraduate work in Bioengineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

I use a multi-omics approach to study the dynamics of transcriptional regulation and chromatin organization.

Justin Currie

I am currently a junior at Brown University studying computational biology. I am interested in how coordinated regulation of gene expression orchestrates synapse formation in Drosophila. In my free time I enjoy hiking, skiing, and playing the ukulele!

Melissa Aldana

I am a senior concentrating in Biology. In the Larschan Lab, I use the CUT and RUN to better understand DCC targeting to the X-chromosome via CLAMP.

Nathan Nigrin

I am currently a senior studying Biology on the Cell and Molecular track. My work in the Larschan Lab is focused on dosage compensation and the genetic basis of sex-based aging differences in male and female Drosophila.

Dr. Gunjan Singh

I am a Postdoc in the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry Department. I worked on how Heat shock pathway genes are regulated during epithelial tumor development for my graduate project at Banaras Hindu University, India. Currently, I am interested in understanding molecular mechanisms of sex-specific brain aging...

to college to study biology and chemistry. I earned Associate degrees with Honors in Biological Sciences and Natural Science from Sierra College. I then transferred to Southern Oregon University (SOU), where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Chemistry with Honors, and Biology minor. As an undergraduate I researched heme protein biochemistry and plant pathogen resistance genetics. I am now a PhD student in the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry Graduate Program co-advised by Erica Larschan and Kate O'Connor-Giles. My current PhD research uses Drosophila to study coordinated regulation of gene expression during neural synapse formation.

Smriti Vaidyanathan

I am a senior concentrating in Computational Biology on a CS track. In the Larschan Lab, I analyze CLAMP’s interactions with RNA to better understand its role in alternative splicing. My research interests are understanding biochemical mechanisms through a computational lens.

Angelica Aragon Vasquez

I am a senior at Brown University studying biology. I am interested in understanding the mechanisms of dosage compensation in Drosophila at the Larschan Lab.
